They live inside decks, and decks are named after engagements, versions and dates rather than after what is on page 14, so searching costs more than rebuilding. A copied slide also arrives carrying the source deck's fonts, colours and spacing, and the strongest structures stay in the folder of whoever built them instead of belonging to the firm. What the Slide Library does: - Saving. One click stores a slide with its layout, brand styling and content intact. Decky reads the slide's text and a rendered image of it and proposes a title, short description, category and tags, pre-filled and editable. - Finding. Search fuses two rankings: keyword matching over title, description and tags, and similarity over an embedding of the slide itself. A slide surfaces if either signal is strong, so searching "market" returns a market sizing page whose title never uses the word. Collections give folder-style browsing. - Reusing. Inserting applies the destination deck's theme, so fonts and colours become those of the deck being worked in, with an option to keep a slide's original look. - Decks. The open presentation, or a selection from it, can be saved in one pass, and the slides stay individually searchable. - Sharing. The practice: consultants draw a page by hand before building it, because paper does not force formatting decisions before the argument has settled. A sketch is effectively a specification for a consulting page: the grid, the reading order, what is a chart and what is a table, where the takeaway sits, and how much space each panel deserves. The problem: the drawing is finished thinking in a format nobody can present, and transcribing it into PowerPoint is the expensive part. Aligning panels to a grid, rebuilding a stacked bar with a growth callout, matching a table header to the master, then correcting panel titles that came out at different sizes. None of that is judgement. Describing a layout in words instead is slower than drawing it, because a paragraph describing a drawing is a lossy version of the drawing. Three inputs, one mechanism. A photograph of the page you drew; a photograph of the whiteboard at the end of a client workshop; a screenshot of a layout you saw elsewhere and want to build like. In each case the picture is attached to the chat inside PowerPoint and the model works from the image itself rather than from a written description. An attached picture is used in one of three ways: - layout: the arrangement is rebuilt on the slide and the picture itself is never placed on it. This covers the sketch and the whiteboard, and it is the default. - content: the picture is embedded on the slide. - style: look and feel only. It deliberately does not copy the content or the layout. Pointing at someone else's exhibit as a layout therefore yields the arrangement rebuilt from your own material, never the page itself, because a layout reference is never embedded and never supplies the words. What survives the translation: - The layout. Panels sit where they were drawn, in the same grid and reading order. - The charts. A hand-drawn stacked bar, pie or scatter comes out as a native PowerPoint chart object with a real embedded worksheet behind it, not as a picture of a chart. - The action title. A title written across the top of a sketch stays a full sentence rather than being flattened into a topic label. - Annotations. A growth arrow becomes a callout, a boxed takeaway becomes a key takeaway panel. - The template. Type hierarchy, palette, rules and table headers come from the deck's own master, not from the picture. The limit, stated plainly: this drafts a page someone has already thought through. It does not decide the argument, choose the framework or determine what belongs on the page. The practice this starts from: consultants routinely sketch a page two or three ways before building it, because form is not decoration. A two by two makes a trade-off visible that a table hides, and a table makes a ranking exact that a chart only gestures at. Which form is right depends on what the page has to prove, and the fastest way to find out is to see the options beside each other. The economics that stop it happening on screen: on paper an alternative costs about forty seconds, so three get drawn. In PowerPoint the second version costs what the first one cost, an hour for a real exhibit, so it never gets built. The decision about form is therefore made where it is cheapest to be wrong, in someone's head before anything exists, and revisited where it is most expensive, in the review after the page is built. The version that shipped wins by default because it is the only one in the room. What Versions does. It is a setting in the Decky AI chat panel, an icon in the row beside web search, clicked once for two versions and again for three. With it on, a request for a new slide produces two or three alternative slides built concurrently and inserted into the deck side by side at the target position, on the deck's own template. A pick card in the chat shows them next to each other, each labelled with the form it took. Clicking a preview jumps PowerPoint to that actual slide at full size. Keeping one removes the others; Keep all leaves every version in the deck. What is allowed to differ. Content is fixed across versions: the same title, the same figures, the same wording, the same source line. Only the visual representation varies, and specifically the form rather than the arrangement: a different chart type, a table where a sibling has a chart, KPI cards, an icon grid, a process flow. Versions that merely move the same components to different positions are treated as a failure, and each version is explicitly told which forms its siblings are using so it does not reproduce them. A practical consequence: a brief that prescribes the layout defeats the feature, because every version obeys it. Describe what the page has to say and let the versions differ in how they say it. Scope, stated plainly: - It applies only when a message creates exactly one new slide. It is deliberately ignored for multi-slide deck builds and for edits to an existing slide. - It is off by default and stays on once switched on, until switched off. A consulting page is assembled from a small and conventional vocabulary of blocks: the columned comparison, the 2x2 with items plotted on it, the panel of key messages beside a chart where the "so what" goes, the row of headline numbers with a delta on one of them, the small table of figures behind the exhibit, the arrow across the tops of the bars with a growth rate in a pill, the interview quote, the Preliminary stripe, the wheel of steps. The forms are conventional on purpose, because that is what lets a partner read a page in four seconds. What varies between decks is the argument, not the furniture. Why a template does not solve it. A .potx supplies masters, layouts, a colour scheme and two typefaces. It does not supply the arrangement; nothing in a template knows what a two by two is. So the blocks live in the last deck that had one, and reusing them means pasting in a group and then undoing the old client's blue, the wrong typeface and a text size set for a different master. What shipped. The Assets tab in Decky AI has a Components section alongside the maps, flags and icons already there. The set, which is still growing, covers: column table (two to six side-by-side columns with headings and bullets), category grid (rows of categories against headed columns), insight panel (a titled column of key messages), metric call-out (one to four headline numbers with optional signed deltas), data table (metric rows against period columns, right-aligned, optional totals row), heatmap (measures against groups, cells shaded on one accent), waffle chart (a 10x10 grid of units by group share), 2x2 matrix (labelled axes, four titled quadrants, items plotted by an x,y value from 0 to 100), quote (a direct quote with attribution), call-out (a bordered note with a leader line), annotation arrow (a CAGR or difference arrow with a pill label at its midpoint), badge (a labelled stripe such as Preliminary in a semantic tone) and segment ring (a cycle of steps as ring segments with one optionally highlighted). Generated, not pasted. A component is a recipe that runs at the moment it is placed, against the slide it is placed on. Type sizes are derived from the slide master's own body and title styles, so an 11pt master produces an 11pt component. Every colour it writes is a theme token rather than a hex value and every run of text references the theme's major or minor font, so the block arrives in the deck's palette and typefaces with no recolouring afterwards. Semantic colour is the deliberate exception: a signed delta on a metric shows green when positive and red when negative, so the sign does not have to be read. Hairlines and muted captions are not a grey; they are the deck's own text colour at low opacity, sixty per cent for a caption and twenty-two per cent for a rule, which resolves correctly on light and dark masters and keeps working when the darkness comes from a photograph or gradient on the layout rather than from a theme colour. What lands on the slide. A group of ordinary PowerPoint shapes, not an image and not an embedded object. Every part is named, so an individual heading or label can be changed by asking Decky or by clicking into it and typing. Arity is real: two items make a two-column table and five make a five-column one. A box too small for the content is refused with the minimum size named, rather than the type being shrunk to fit. Two ways to place one. Ask, and Decky places the component as part of building the page, already filled with the content of the request. Or open the Assets tab, choose Components and click one: it lands on the current selection, or centred on the slide when nothing is selected.
